Washington DC: Hidden Gems
Our trip to Washington was sweet and lovely. I’m going to make a list of the highlights and best places to make your trip just as wonderful!
Friday
Our flight got delayed due to epic winds—which was ironic as I had forgotten my ID and had my mom speeding down the 408 to get it to me on time (sorry Mom, much love). We arrived Melrose Georgetown Hotel late in the evening and practically bounced with joy on the beds. Ciara already picked out our meal of the night, where we dined at Founding Farmers. Afterwards
Walked to White House afterwards as we noticed it wasn’t too far on our maps. Of course we went the long way, and eventually Ciara got sketched out as she had taken a security class about the White House and knew we were surrounded by snipers. (ha!)

Saturday
Started off our day at the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian American Art Museum. The sculpture of the nude woman was one of my favorites, as my current art history class has allowed me to gain an appreciation for sculpting and figures. Next we tackled the National Gallery of Art. It was absolutely ginormous, with never ending rooms, so we ended up leaving after an hour or two even though it seemed as though we had barely scratched the surface. On our way to the Capitol, we stopped at a Starbucks to warm our hands. Once we got to the Supreme Court, Ciara geeked out. It was adorable and fascinating that her geeking out correlates to our government whereas my geeking out is over chiseled marble and oil paintings. We then went back to change for dinner and walked to Georgetown by the water. It was a chilly night but we sat outside next to a heater while we ate at Farmers, Fishers, Bakers. I got clam chowder soup, and salad and margherita pizza whereas Ciara got grilled cheese, fries, and hibiscus tea. Ice skating was going on, and this teenage boy kept faking getting hurt and banging the side of the rink every time he ran into it. Walked to CVS for toothbrush and chocolate

Sunday
In the morning we ate at Bluestone Lane, where I got banana bread with fresh berries and pecans while Ciara got acabado toast and lemon granola yogurt. We then explored Georgetown and to my UTTER complete surprise and happiness, we found a cat cafe. So naturally we had to play with kittnes for an hour, and I couldn’t stop joking with Ciara, “Is this my birthday or yours?!” Continued shopping and had our candle pouring/making class at Paddywax. That evening I treated Ciara to her birthday dinner with wines and cheeses at a nearby wine bar.

My smarty pants best friend had two interviews lined up for the day, so we were preparing for that before we hopped on our plane back home. Her first was George Washington Law and the second was Georgetown Law.
Grateful for this friendship and to Ciara’s parents who allowed her to be born on this earth! Truly don’t know what kind of world it would be without my dear friend, Keybo.
Hope you all are having amazing adventures of your own!
xx,
Shelby
